#26 Shadow of the Living Room

#26 Shadow of the Living Room

Once I saw a photo of art made just with a shadow of a bunch of junk. Idea intrigued me, so today I tried it in my own way. Shadows of a few (not all) remote controls I had laying around were perfect objects to cast a shadow of a living room, a place for a remote control jockey. This shadow is just reflection of their environment, their real soul. Do not think of remotes as inanimate objects anymore - they are more than that. :)

Light was provided by one of my 500W halogen workshop lights, placed on the floor, and covered with a cardboard to minimize reflections. Towels were laid from light to the wall for the same reason - shiny floor was casting too many additional shadows. Remotes were placed on different distances from the wall to represent the softness of the material. Sofa is blurry/soft and closer to light. Coffee table and bottle, flat screen TV, and console are harder and closer to the wall. If I wanted to take just a photo of the shadow, I'd placed them all further from the wall so I can come closer to the floor and to the center of the picture. Here I wanted to show the objects casting a shadow as well, so I got higher. If I decide to do this again, I'd look for a stronger light, placed much farther from the wall, so objects can be sharper, and a bit further away from the wall too. And next time I won't limit myself with the shadow object types, since it limited severely the kind of picture I can make.
