We got a nice potted amaryllis from a friend, and three flowers grew as big as a hand span. This one caught my attention, so I had to capture it while it is still so nice. When taking a flower photo, one of the most important elements is the background. Usually I look for a nicely blurred background with no distracting colors or contrasts that emphasizes the petals. Here I had just a flower without a stem, so I had more choices to choose from. One obvious background was totally black one, where these nice gentle colors would pop-up. I went the other way. White background is making the flower almost dark by comparison. Additionally I got slightly higher contrast and got almost a different flower with all details super visible because of the 500W bulb underneath it - plenty of light to play with.
