Terrible tragedy in Paris initiated another wave of social media solidarity. While I do not want events like this to be forgotten, I have problem with some of the ways that pain can be expressed:

TRICOLORE: French flag colors on ​the profile picture look nice, but isn't France part of the bigger family - EU? Am I ignoring EU principles if I push for national colors at moments like this? What about those victims who were not French? What does would it mean when I eventually change my profile picture to something else? That I stop caring?

ISLAM: I do not think that a relatively small number of extremist are representing a majority and I do not have any exposure to media specifically aimed at the Muslim population, but I wonder if they represent similar sentiment toward the recent Paris events. I hope that majority is neither silent nor supportive.

B/W: Nothing is black or white. Everything is in grey shades somewhere in between. Violence is terrible, but it usually has some reason. If we could focus on those reasons instead of hatred world would be so much better. I do not think that Obama is Muslim and that he approves of this. I do not think that diversity in France (or anywhere else) is a bad thing. I do not think that families escaping the war in their country should be treated as a enemies. And, in general, I do not think that more violence will result in less violence.
