Moon was always teasing, inspiring, inviting, and puzzling us. Even before there was a word for it, there was a notion of this big light, helping us see in the night. First telescopes were pointed up, to see the moon and stars. So close but so far. Looking from down here it looks tantalizing close and small, and only when we try to actually take a real photo we get some idea about distance of over 200,000 miles between us. Phones can take a picture of the white dot. Long lenses of 300 mm, can take some details but they need a heavy cropping and only high resolution big sensors can really show some of the details.
And, there is my new toy - Nikon P900, a small sensor camera with an unbelievable 2000 mm equivalent lens. It can almost fill the frame with the moon, assuming it is a clear sky, not overcast as we had since I got the camera almost a week ago, looking for the moon every single night, hoping for break in clouds so I can make the real test of this camera without going to the stadium, pay for the nose-bleed section and take portraits of players on the field.
