Serbian Orthodox church is one of those that didn't accept these newfangled calendars, and is sticking to the proper, Julian calendar. Today is a Christmas. Some of the Serbian customs related to the celebration are the oak branch blessed by the priest, and a family dinner. For years my son was 'положник' for our friends, which meant that he was the first to come to the house on that day, and wish them a good year by reciting each blessing as he comes through the door. Since Filip is away in school now, I took over the duty, coming, reciting, breaking the 'погача', and going back home for my own xmas dinner. Fun!

This is a picture of Kundačina's Christmas dinner table, with the blessed oak branch, flag, and the candle stuck in a bowl of wheat. Shot handheld, with existing light, almost leveled with a table to put candle as a most important part of the photo. I usually do not like centered pictures, but this was a centerpiece. :)
